Round 3...

These were some of my favorite paintings from the last 2 years on Ralph. A couple of moments, Taffyta's kart (I designed) and King Candy's kart (original design by Lorelay Bove). And, because I get asked a lot, the karts are all painted, no 3D. Lastly, one of the matte paintings I did on the show. The image beneath it shows the 3D elements in green.

Round 2...

Another batch of visdev. Some early Hero's Duty stuff. First up, an early version of Calhoun and a take on the soldier. Then some early moments (the second was an homage to Zone of Enders 2) and a couple of tower ideas a take on the escape pod ejection. The baby bug was a look painting over Scott Watanbe's drawing, and Minkyu Lee's design. Last is the medal moment. I wish the eagles had stayed. All images are property/copyright Disney

Round 1....

Here's the first round of visdev that I did for Wreck-It Ralph (if you're counting post movie release... which I am). This is all early Sugar Rush work. The first was a desert/dessert section of the track, originally designed by the amazing Kevin Nelson. The next few were explorations for the candy cane forest. These were heavily influenced by the work of the spectacular Brittney Lee. She actually built sections of Sugar Rush out of candy. You should buy the Art of Wreck-It Ralph to see some images of the actual models. Then some "hero" candy cane trees for an earlier version of the script, and finally some work for the crash sequence. Tune in for round 2 next week. All images are property/copyright Disney.

More Wreck-It Ralph

I found some of the visdev work I did on Wreck-It Ralph Stitchkingdom.com as part of the latest batch of released visdev. The first was a painting to sell the idea and look of Game Central station. The second was a moment moment painting (one of my favorite because I got to come up with the signs), and the third was an early visdev piece for Hero's Duty. I've been so lucky to work on such an awesome film with such awesome people. Images are copyright Disney.

Wreck - it Ralph visdev

Some visdev/production art was released by Disney for the movie, so I guess it's okay to post here. Here's a moment I painted (the unedited version this time) where Ralph goes to a first person shooter for the first time.

"What are you doing Dave?"

*UPDATE* the lounge at work. First time I've actually sat down there.

The whole time I was painting this, I kept thinking of HAL from space odyssey. I am not afraid of my oven though.... it doesn't work. This was done using my new samsung slate. Awesomeness. Not really a fan of windows, but since Apple is against anyone using any kind of stylus with pressure sensitivity, or even making their own tablet mac (I bought a modbook... not so awesome), I gots me a slate. I installed a hotkey plug in so I have touch screen on the side of my tablet for hot keys, and wacom pressure sensitive pen on the rest. Still getting used to the work flow, but I like it. Here's some links given to me by the awesome Tony Jung who helped me set up my slate.

I'd very much appreciate people not posting my work on Pintrest. I have no problem if you save my work for your own personal viewing, that's what you sign up for when you post on the internet. But reposting my work, with out my consent is not cool. If you have posted any of my stuff on Pintrest, please take it down. No hard feelings. It's just that it's placing my work in a public form over which I have no control over the context in which it is shown. I am truly honored that some may find my work as inspirational, but instead of reposting my work with out my knowledge or permission, just post a link back to my blog or specific image. I'll be sending a similar email to pintrest and exploring ways to prevent my work from being pinned. Thanks.

Here's a sargent study. I'd ask the guy if it's cool to study his work, but I can't find his website or  email.

El Matador

Finally got out of Burbank. I was pretty ill prepared for this one. I was freezing under the rocks (needed the shade for the glare) and was wearing a light shirt (so it glared anyway, just not as bad). I had to take a break to feel my fingertips 20 minutes in. I think I spent about just under an hour and a half on this. Next time, sweater, dark shirt, and something to sit on.

Wreck-It Ralph

One of the first released images (my first from a movie) . You'll have to wait for the "real" version of this when the movie comes out. This image is based off of the designs of the amazing Cory Loftis. Editing occurs so things don't get spoiled, (plus, it's bigger). You can see more images here
