Hellboy fan art

Mike Mignola has always been a huge influence and inspiration. A little HB fan art makes me happy.

Ryan, really great stuff. I'm a huge fan of your work. This has got to be one of my favorites. There is a subtle grainy texture to this piece and the last post even more so that is really nice. Can I ask how you achieved that? Are you working in PS?

Awesome work Mr. Lang. How long does a piece like this take you to complete? I'd like to know so I have a goal to attain in terms of time. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words!

@mandish It's just a film grain filter. I just play with the settings to get what I want. Nothing too crazy.

@phill 4-5 hours maybe? This was easier because there's already an established design. When I have to come up with an original design, it can take A LOT longer.

One of the best "fan art" I've seen!
May I ask you some question? How did you get the lighting reference for this one? Did you set up a model and take picture by yourself, online photo, or did you paint from experience or imagination? Thanks!

@ Joe Tirasuwan the lighting is out of my head. I was just thinking which planes would receive which light source. Mignola designs are great for that.
