Baltimore: The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire

I really liked this book, written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden. I read it twice. That's a big deal for me. These are a couple of the characters (from left to right) Aischros, Dr. Rose, Childress, and Mr. Grey. I tried to go with a more graphic look, moving towards stronger shapes and less detail, and was really influenced by 50's animation design. Hopefully I'll paint them up as if they were 3d models. How awesome would it be to have a 3d animated movie, pushed in terms of design and content. Vampires, man eating marionettes, lake monsters, plagues, and demon bears that crawl out of soldiers all taking place during WW1. Del Toro.... dude.... get crackin'.

Hey there, I found your blog awhile ago. Really amazing paintings and work!

Love your character designs. The shapes are so interesting and varied. They all have such different noses haha.

I like how your characters always have a little bit of your own personality in each of them.. like I think, 'that's a Ryan expression.' It's neat :)

Hey Ryan - you probably don't remember me from your HVS days but yeah, it happened.

I stumbled on your blog by accident and man, I just gotta tell ya - you've come a long way from Charlie and Chocolate Factory cinematics. I can't recall a time when I've seen such a dramatic improvement in someone's work. Completely humbling.

Hope all is well!
